One of the toughest years in American history is coming to an end, but for me personally, it was one of the best years of my life. Who says your mid-30's can't be terrific? I managed to keep my career in Investment Banking while even closing a few deals. I quenched my thirst for adventure by visiting Dublin, Ireland, Moscow, Russia and Rio De Janerio, Brazil in addition to domestic destinations including Atlantic City, Asbury Park, Tampa, San Francisco Bay Area and Minneapolis. Of course, no year would be complete without a Buckeye game. I managed to watch Ohio State squeak by Navy in early September with David, my family and my OSU engineering crew. I saw two friends get married - Amy and Merris and even performed my first wedding ceremony. I became a great uncle twice, caught way too many mice in my apartment and had visitors from around the globe. I lived, I loved, I discovered, I lost and am optimisitic about what 2010 holds.

Wishing everyone the best for the new year and hope to connect soon. Go Bucks!

Mike

My friend Jennifer (JZ) scored two tickets at FACE VALUE for the annual grudge match between Ohio State and Michigan in Ann Arbor. We made our way to Detroit where we met my niece Amy and her fiancé for lunch on Friday, hung out with JZ’s family that evening and met up with some OSU friends Saturday before the game. It was freezing cold, but another OSU victory brightened my day.

Merris flew in for the weekend from Minneapolis and Ben came down from Connecticut for a Melbourne Business School reunion. We headed to the Buckeye alumni bar, Tonic, conveniently situated less than two blocks from my apartment for the OSU vs. Minnesota football game. After posing with the blow up Brutus Buckeye greeting us at the door, we made our way inside for some refreshments and another Buckeye victory. Ohh yeah, there is the unfortunate moment having to spend the entire day Sunday grading papers on campus. Fortunately, Sava had a worse time studying for the series 7 exam….

For the 2nd time since I’ve been alumni of both Ohio State and Washington, they have faced each other on the gridiron. I am always asked, ‘Where does your allegiance lie?’ That’s a no brainer, Ohio State! I made the trek back to the Pacific Northwest with Mike, Allison, Matt and Peter. I visited my old haunts including the Ram on game day and the bars on Capitol Hill at night. I’m thankful for yet another Buckeye victory.

Sooo…I decided to pick up my trombone which I haven’t touched since the Citrus Bowl in ’95 and play in the alumni band for the first time since graduation. It was great seeing many familiar faces, but unfortunately, no one from my row during my five years in band showed up. Surprisingly, all of the music came back to me quickly. I guess it shouldn’t be surprising given the thousands of times I have played each song – after ever touchdown, field goal, first down, ahhh…just for the hell of it.

Afterwards I met up with Julia, ran into Chris who I hadn’t seen probably for ten years and of course, ran into some St. Henry guys. My Sister and her husband, Mom and I split rooms at the Red Roof downtown. It was a great day, but exhausted after getting up at 5am. Ahhh….football season….is there any better time of the year?
